WordPress weekly digest 17th December to 23rd December 2007

It has been a very busy week for WordPress 2.4, partly due to a mid week bug-hunt, the changes this week were:

  • Introduction of a wp_set_password() pluggable function to allow it to be overridden easily (#2394).
  • Changes to is_page() to allow for an array of pages to be specified (#5430).
  • Faster rewrite rules for pages for some permalink structures (#3614).
  • Escaping added to the POP3 error messages to avoid XSS attacks (#5484).
  • Fixes to the valid element configuration of TinyMCE to allow for more valid combinations (#3826).
  • Fixes to the tag entry field to avoid erroneous blank tags (#5412).
  • Changes to sanitize_title() to allow ‘0’ to be a valid title (#5293).
  • New get_search_feed_link() and get_search_comments_feed_link() template tags (#5442).
  • Improvements to the relative links provided in atom comments feeds (#5435).
  • Addition of an xmlrpc method for deleting categories (#4599).
  • Custom field support for the xmlrpc interface (#5148).
  • Addition of a password strength meter to the user profile page (#4470).
  • Improvements to the strings used where a different message text is displayed for plurals (#4865).
  • Add a link to the relevant post to the comment editing screen (#4345).
  • Documentation for wp-settings.php (#5211).
  • Fixes for some of the NOTICE errors visible when WP_DEBUG is enabled ([6435], [6436]).
  • Improvements to the image metadata extraction functionality to ensure we only try and extra metadata from valid file types (#5397).
  • Changes to ensure that PNG transparency and alpha channels are preserved during thumbnail generation (#2805).
  • Addition of file level documentation to the third party libraries (#5443).
  • Changes to the wpdb class to suppress database errors by default (#5473).
  • Support for a custom database down page (#5500).
  • Improvements to make_clickable() to have different rules for different uri types ([6449]).
  • Improvements to the install process to check for valid database connection info (#5495).
  • Addition of pages to the things searched (#5149).
  • Addition of new actions import_done and xmlrpc_call ([6472], [6473]).

We have also seen the beginnings of the new admin design being checked in. Hopefully next week I will be able to bring you some screenshots!

WordPress weekly digest 12th November to 18th November 2007

It has been another busy week for WordPress 2.4, the changes this week have included:

  • Output WP_Error message when adding categories via AJAX (#5342).
  • WXR Importer fix to ensure that tags are imported correctly (#5330).
  • A change to the capability checks used by “submit-for-review” to ensure the same capability is check in all cases (#5329).
  • Caching of the current theme in options (#5346).
  • Refactor of the WXR exporter to allow for unit-testing (#5347).
  • Improvements to the memory usage of the WXR importer (#5357).
  • Changes to ensure that when the page set as the homepage is deleted we revert to a blog view on the homepage (#5361).
  • Ensure that we offer https access to atom in the RSD if it is available (#5298).

WordPress weekly digest 5th November to 11th November 2007

It has been another busy week for WordPress 2.4, the changes this week have included:

  • Extraction of metadata from uploaded images (#5162).
  • Performance improvements to seems_utf8() and uf8_uri_encode() (#5320).
  • Refactoring and improvements to actions and filters including the ‘all‘ hook (#5321, #5232).
  • Performance improvements in some of the sanitisation functions when called for the raw data (#5235).
  • Changes to ensure that WordPress does not reset to the default theme when a site is under heavy access (#3907).
  • Introduction of a new get_category_feed_link() template tag to make it easy to use a different feed type for categories (#5173).

It has been another busy week for WordPress 2.4, the changes this week have included:

  • Caching of the queries in wp_get_archives() (#5275).
  • Documentation for wp_version_check() (#5233).
  • Fixes to the javascript comment delete links and ajax moderation (#5288).
  • AJAX for link category add and delete (#5291).
  • More centralisation of the database setup code into $wpdb (#5287).
  • Form validation via AJAX (#5299).
  • Fixes to allow wp-links-opml.php to return the links for just one category (#5295).
  • A refactor of wp-admin/includes/image.php (#5312, #4151, #4709, #5304).

WordPress weekly digest 22nd October to 28th October 2007

This week the list of changes is quite short as a lot of time was spent on the preparation and testing of the recent WordPress 2.3.1 maintenance releaseyou can read a detailed list of the changes in my post from Friday.

The changes going into WordPress 2.4 this week have included:

  • A increase in the types of sorting supported by get_terms() (#5245).
  • Separation of taxonomy relationships into separate cache buckets ([6286], [6288])
  • Fixes to the manage posts page to restoring the filtering functionality with the new “infinite posts” feature (#5249)
  • A fix in install-helper.php so that you do not get errors when included from a plugin (#5090)

WordPress weekly digest 15th October to 21st October 2007

This week has seen a number of changes going into WordPress 2.4, these have included:

  • A refactor of the plugin (de)activation functionality so as to enable unit tests to be written (#5210).
  • Lots of new and updated phpdoc documentation for different areas of the code. (#4742, #5225).
  • Addition of Atom support to the RSD document to enable easy discovery of it’s support (#5213).
  • A refactor of the Atom publication and feed code to share common functionality (#5181).
  • Improvements to the email address extraction in wp-mail.php (#5169).
  • A security fix to the link manager to ensure that only uses with the manage_links capability can add/remove/edit links (#4627).
